Abstract

Retention policies in higher education institutions in India are formulated on the basis of performance of faculty members of the
institutions. Till date, academic credentials of faculty members are the basis of their recruitment and selection. But for retaining
high performers in the institutions, intelligence beyond cognitive should be inculcated in performance measurement systems of the
institutions. This study explores the impact of emotional and spiritual intelligence on performance of faculty members for retention
using structural equation modeling. The study reveals that there is significant impact of emotional and spiritual intelligence on
faculty performance. Therefore, these forms of intelligence must be included and implemented for performance assessment in
higher education systems while framing retention policies.
